In a sense, the concept of an adjustable table has always existed. In the manufacturing industry and in workshops, tables or manufacturing surfaces have had to be adjusted in height for different people and when handling objects of varying sizes. These worktables were previously usually operated with a manual crankshaft. When we talk about desks in an office environment, the fixed desk dominated the market until the mid-90s,
when the first height-adjustable desks with manual adjustment were introduced. It wasn't until the beginning of the 2000s that motorized adjustable desks began to be sold on a large scale. Ergonomics
Several studies have been done in the area which show that the body and especially the back takes a beating from sitting still in a chair for several hours straight. We simply need to be able to stretch and stand for part of our working day. This is based on a long-term ergonomic perspective.

Circulation
When we have the opportunity to easily stand up and work, the body's circulation automatically increases, which oxygenates the brain and muscles. This reduces the risk of dizziness, headaches and exhaustion. It also doesn't take more than 20-30 minutes per day to give the body the basic stimulation it needs.

Workplaces with adjustable tables are generally perceived as better. It is considered a workplace advantage and a good way for employers to create a more long-term and pleasant working environment for staff. Considering the relatively small extra cost per table, in the vast majority of cases it is a good investment to have adjustable tables instead of fixed desks.

The engine
What drives the height-adjustable table is an electric motor that is mounted under the desk, usually protected by a metal panel. This component is among the most costly and at the same time important parts of the table. If the motor is too weak, the table may lose function over time and risk having to be replaced long before the life of the table itself is over. A tip is to check that the motor has a power of at least 100 watts and a maximum load of at least 70 kilos.

The table top
The most common materials that desk tops are made of are laminates. It is a combination of filling material on the inside and a harder laminated, often wood-based and reinforced, material in the surface layer. Thanks to the hard surface, laminate boards are very wear-resistant and durable, while being cost-effective. The more exclusive materials can be solid wood materials or desks with a glass top. Furniture manufacturers are usually able to offer a large range of boards as standard. In addition to this, they can manufacture special boards in their own measurements and in more exclusive materials.

The stand
When choosing a stand for your desk or desks, the choice is usually between lacquered steel and chrome. Lacquered steel is by far the most common and at the same time the slightly lower priced option. Lacquered steel is often found in grey, white or black, but most suppliers can choose basically any colour. Chrome stands are the variants where the material has a glossy finish, and that option often makes the table slightly more expensive.

Manufacturing
Please double check before purchase that the tables have been manufactured according to current requirements and guidelines and ask for a certificate of this. It's a simple way to ensure that the table is of good quality from the start and that you don't run into quality errors at a later time. It is also a plus if the manufacturer can show a certificate that the tables are manufactured in an environmentally friendly way regarding both the working environment and the choice of materials. Often the price does not differ between a company that does not have an environmental certificate and one that does. We recommend always choosing environmentally friendly when there is an opportunity to do so!

Guarantee
For many companies, adjustable desks are a big investment and if the tables have unforeseen quality defects, it is a big expense to have to repair or replace the tables. This must of course be covered by the company that sold the table via a guarantee. We recommend that you always buy fixtures of this nature from companies that offer a quality guarantee of at least two years. Different variants of adjustable tables
As a customer, you can't always choose anything other than the motorized height-adjustable table. But in some cases, in addition to the more common motor-driven adjustable table, there is also a table with a rotating stand as an alternative. The crankable stand is slightly cheaper and can work well, for example, for those who do not plan to adjust the height very often, but who still want the ability to do so.

The price of an adjustable table can vary quite a lot, depending on a number of different factors such as place of manufacture, material, brand and much more. But generally speaking, the cheaper models are somewhere between 2000-3000 kroner and the most expensive options at 8000-12000 kroner. Our advice is not to spend money on unnecessarily expensive furniture. Ensure good quality and get the color and design you are after, at the best possible price.
